Google Celebrates Falafel

Ah, those deep fried Middle Eastern balls of vegan protein goodness! I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love them!

Falafel is a highly popular street food made of chickpeas and fava beans (together or alone) with a mix of spices and herbs and onions, ground and formed into balls that are then deep fried and served in pita bread topped with tarator (tahini sauce with garlic and lemon juice), fresh tomatoes, chopped parsley, mint leaves and pickles.

Falafel Joseph – Sin El Fil

The original Falafel sandwich is served in a pita wrap, as opposed to the Western version served in a pita pocket, which is being celebrated today as a Google Doodle.

I prefer the wrap as opposed to the pita pocket because the latter is thick and heavy in my opinion, whereas Lebanese bread is thin, supple and chewy, the perfect consistency to go with the crunchy golden bites of heaven that are Falafel!

My favorite Falafel sandwich in all of Lebanon is Falafel Joseph in Sin El Fil. It is simply out of this world!

Where do you go to get your Falafel fix?
